Shiviti Shrine | Mixed Media Jewish Art

This 4” square mixed media shiviti shrine features a hand embroidered Magen David on green silk with a metal hamsa bead accent, set into a frame with a larger hamsa, bottle with scroll, and hanging charm that says “faith.”

A shiviti is a unique kind of Jewish talisman that is intended to act as a constant reminder of the Divine presence that is traced to Psalms 16:8, “I have set YHVH before me at all times. (שויתי יי ולנגדי תמיד).” That verse is what is on the scroll in the bottle.

The shrine can be an active altar piece that you can add your own personal touches to like petition papers, flowers, herbs, or anything else that you think of that you wish to call to mind with the Divine or rest on a shelf as is.

The style of the Star of David in this piece is similar to the Anahata (अनाहत) or heart chakra, which also uses a 6-pointed star as its symbol that is often surrounded by delicate petals.

The wooden frame, which is 1” deep, is painted a glowing rose gold on the outer edge — which blends the energy of gold, silver, and copper — and yellow gold on the inside.
